Marilyn Stensland

d. February 23, 2016

Marilyn Avis Stensland, age 82, of Stillwater, MN, died on February 23, 2016 at the Baldwin Care Center in Baldwin, WI.

Marilyn was born on December 12, 1933 in their family’s farmhouse in Woodville, WI to Lloyd and Eleanor (Moll) Johnson. She grew up in Woodville and graduated from Woodville High School.

In 1951, she was united in marriage to Carroll Stensland at the First Baptist Church in Woodville, a marriage that would be blessed with 6 children: Duane, Sheryl, Penny, Kathy, Kelly, and Jill. She spent many years as a cook for Afton Lakeland School in District 834.

Marilyn cherished spending time with her family, whether entertaining her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids with a plate full of bars, or clowning around and catching up with her sisters. Even though she cooked for a living, cooking and baking was her passion and she very much enjoyed sharing her delicious meals and treats with those she loved. When her children were young, they spent practically every weekend on camping trips, soaking up the sun on the beach of a campground. She loved having picnics, playing board games, was a dedicated parishioner at First Baptist Church, and loved her pet Pomeranians.

She is survived by her children: Duane (Debra) Stensland, Penny (Robert) Urman, Kathy Stewart, and Kelly (Dan) Dana; 18 grandkids; 37 great-grandkids; 1 great great-grandkid; siblings: Sharon (Duane) Gross, Barb (Dale) Arens, Richard (Francene) Johnson, and Shirley Arnoldy; and sister-in-law, Pat Johnson.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carroll; parents; daughters, Sheryl Vezner and Jill Zigan; son-in-law, Mike Vezner; brothers, Jim and Floyd Johnson; and brother-in-law, Tony Arnoldy.

Funeral Service 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 581 Old County Hwy B, Woodville with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
