Mark Rennie Hoberg

May 19, 1954 — May 20, 2025

Winona, Minnesota

Mark Rennie Hoberg passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2025 with his family by his side. After battling brain cancer for six years, at 71 years old, he is finally at peace.

Mark was born on May 19, 1954, to Dr. Glenn and Georgia (Prouty) Hoberg. Growing up in River Falls, Wisconsin he attended River Falls High School and went on to earn his BS from UW Stout and Master of Business Administration from St. Cloud State. Mark resided in Monticello where he raised his family for 34 years before moving to Winona with his wife, Cindee.

Mark joined the military at age 20 and proudly served his country for 33 years in both the Navy and Army National Guard, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and retiring after a tour in Afghanistan. Mark dedicated his career to service and held roles in manufacturing engineering and the Wright County Sheriff's office where he retired as Deputy Sheriff. Driven by a desire to make a difference, Mark expected nothing but the best of himself and worked every day to bring the best out of those around him. Mark led by example and remained disciplined with high integrity.

Mark was known for his love of the outdoors and from the time he was a small child enjoyed fishing, hunting, and music. In retirement he could often be found spending his mornings golfing followed by a motorcycle ride, ending the day with a good cigar. In his later years, he enjoyed singing in the Forget Me Notes Chorus. Most of all, he enjoyed socializing. Known for his ability to bring people together, he could make friends with anyone. Notorious for a voice so commanding Mark rarely used a microphone and had a sense of humor that could make everyone laugh.

Most importantly, Mark loved his family. On September 13, 1986, Mark married the love of his life, Cindee Harder, at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville, Wisconsin. Together, they built a life of deep commitment and support. During his battle with brain cancer, together Cindee and Mark worked hard every day with treatments and therapies to increase and maintain his skills. They brought two children, Laura and Michael, into the world. Mark was very proud of both of his children, the success they had achieved and the people they had become.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Cindee Hoberg; his children, Laura Hoberg of Winona, MN, and Michael (Lindsay) Hoberg of Colorado Springs, CO; his grandchildren, Ace and Olivia (Ole) Hoberg; siblings Laurel Hoberg, Nora (John) Bennett, and Gordon (Janet Takayama) Hoberg; his brothers/sisters-in-laws' Sheryl Casper, Tim and Maureen Harder, Robin and Amy Harder, Jeff and Angie Harder, Chris and Sandy Harder, Brad Harder; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Glenn and Georgia Hoberg; parents-in-law, Hans and Donna Rae Harder; his brother-in-law, Val Casper; and his nephew, Patrick Casper.

A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held: Friday, June 27 at Luther Memorial Church in River Falls, WI.  Visitation at 10am, Service at 11am, Luncheon to follow.

Mark will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his courage, determination, humor and his enduring sense of duty. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
