Mary (Molly) Kathleen Baker-Mohrbacher, age 62, passed away on December 10, 2020, after a difficult battle with alcoholism. Preceded in death by her parents, Don and Mary, she is survived by her four children (Marie, Adam, Emily and Mike) and her five brothers (Bill, Joe, John, Don and Tom). Molly was born in 1958 in Menomonie, Wisconsin and grew up in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. She was a graduate of Saint Catherine’s University, where she majored in occupational therapy.
In 1981, she married Paul Joseph Mohrbacher, and together they raised four children in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. A gifted artist, Molly helped instill a love of art in her kids in their early years, nurturing their interests and celebrating their successes. In 2004, Molly and Paul constructed a new home and moved their family to Afton, Minnesota. A year later, Molly made a career change to elementary education, earning her certification and briefly teaching in the Saint Paul metro area.
A woman of many interests, Molly enjoyed cooking and baking, walking, music, reading, gardening, hosting loved ones for a good meal and attending art shows. She also loved having long conversations with friends, family and even strangers – which she often drove by asking many thoughtful questions. She is best remembered for her curious nature, her warm and welcoming personality, her infectious laugh, her deep sensitivity for others, her advocacy for her children, her compassion for animals, her love of reading, her appreciation for and understanding of the natural world and her eclectic sense of humor.
Like many others, Molly grappled with heavy burdens throughout her life – emotional, physical and inter-generational. Her experience speaks to how, even if said burdens can’t be fully overcome, people will always continue to strive for happiness, comfort and peace – however small or fleeting those moments may be. She will be deeply missed by her family, her friends and by all those who knew her.
