Mary Ellen Mulvihill

February 15, 1938 — August 6, 2025

Hudson

Mary Ellen Mulvihill, age 87, of Hudson, WI (formerly of St. Paul and Farmington, MN), passed away after a brief illness, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of family.

Mary was born in 1938 to George and Irene Smyth. She grew up in St. Paul, and graduated from Central High School. Mary was united in marriage to her first husband, Norman Lambkin, and continued to live in St. Paul; they were blessed with their son, Michael. Norman passed away in 1987. Mary was employed for many years as an office manager.

In 1990, Mary and Bill Mulvihill were united in marriage and made their home in St. Paul, Farmington, and Hudson, WI. They became a blended family, including Mary’s son, and Bill’s 5 children. Mary’s peaceful world became a bit more “noisy” as their family continued to grow, and they were blessed with in-laws, 9 grand-children, 10 great grand-children, and many extended “Mulvihill” clan. We aren’t quite sure if she knew what she was getting herself into, but she was definitely surrounded by fun, love and family!

Mary was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother (GaGa Mary), and when she was no longer able to come to family functions, she loved visitors!

Known as the best card giver, Mary never missed a birthday or anniversary. She had a system down where she would have greeting cards addressed for the whole month, with dated post-it notes on them so she knew when to send.

Mary’s happy place was the lake where she loved to boat, fish, read, play games, relax on the porch, and be with friends. She also loved gardening and playing games on the computer.

Mary was a very kind and compassionate person with many friends, and a great sense of humor. Her apartment door was always covered in funny jokes, and she and her friends loved to share humorous, and sometimes “colorful” stories. Mary loved all holidays, decorating for each, and especially loved displaying her Christmas village. Her home was always warm, welcoming, and festive.

Mary had two special neighbors that became great friends. Karen, Nena and Mary had a blast together, and would also help each other out by sharing meals, and providing other “cares”. Mary and her family were so thankful for Karen and Nena!

Mary was faithful and always had God in her heart. As a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hudson, she watched mass every Sunday, and attended in person when able. Earlier, Mary was a member of the Church of St. Michael in Farmington, where she served in the choir, was part of a volunteer cleaning crew, and worked in the food pantry.

Mary will remain in the hearts of her children; son, Michael (Danny) Lambkin, step-children, RoAnn (Dan) Wann, Marcia (Mike) Groetsch, Kelly (John) Bjerkeng, Doug Mulvihill, and Duane Mulvihill; grandchildren, Ryan, MacKenzie (Tom), Jim, Pat (Laura), Stacy (Kevin), Cory (Kailey), Samantha (Caleb), and Victoria (Corey); great-grandchildren, Phoebe, Heathe, Myla, Callan, Josie, Gracie, Howie, Bryson, Leighton and Ari; sisters-in-law Mary, Arlene, and Diana; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Norman and Bill; grandson, Kenny; parents; four siblings; and brothers and sisters-in-law.
