Mary Elizabeth (Lundy) Rivard passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Born on February 17, 1948, in New Richmond, WI, Mary was the only child of Francis C. “Tink” Lundy and Mae H. (Danielson) Lundy. She grew up on a farm just south of New Richmond, and her mother owned and operated a café in town. She was beyond proud of her Irish heritage, which made sense why this redheaded girl loved the color green. Mary graduated from New Richmond High School in 1966 and attended two years of college at UW-River Falls.
On June 30, 1973, Mary was united in marriage to her best friend and love of her life, John E. Rivard, Hammond, WI. Their union was blessed with five children: Stephen, Sara, John Jr., Mark, and Anne. They raised their family in Hammond, WI, where they lived until they retired and moved to their family lake home in Danbury, WI, in 2014. They eventually returned to St. Croix County, most recently residing in New Richmond.
Mary was a stay-at-home mom when her oldest children were young. She worked at St. Mary’s Catholic Church for several years as the religious education director, but she spent most of her career working in health care. She retired in 2007 as an administrative assistant from Holy Family Hospital in New Richmond.
Mary spent over 30 years serving the Village of Hammond as a village trustee, twelve years on the St. Croix Central School Board, and was a member of the St. Mary’s Guild. Mary enjoyed volunteering her time at S.C.C., St. Mary’s, and the communities of Hammond and Roberts.
Before purchasing the family cabin in 1990, the Rivard family spent many weekends camping and fishing and had many RV adventures. John and Mary built their dream retirement home and spent many more years enjoying Bass Lake with their family and friends. Mary was an avid reader and frequented the library at any chance she could get to check out the latest bestseller. She belonged to a book club with her Hammond friends, where she enjoyed discussing the latest reads, but mostly enjoyed the camaraderie and company. She loved baking and sharing her treats with her friends and family. Her happiest place might have actually been on the riding lawn mower and tending to her flowers. She was her children and grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader and was proud of all their accomplishments. She was known and loved for her humor, wit, and no-nonsense approach to life.
Mary is survived by her husband of 53 years, John E. Rivard, Sr., her children: Stephen (Jennifer) Rivard, Sara (Carl) Dueholm, John, Jr. (Lindsay) Rivard, Mark (Karina) Rivard, Anne (Brian) Olson, her grandchildren Jake, Hayden, and Brooks Rivard; Corinne and Kylie Dueholm; Brodie Rivard; Coleman and Della Olson; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Francis “Tink” and Mae Lundy, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marcella and John H. Rivard, her sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and best friends, Annette and Bill Sales, sister-in-law Yvonne Brown, and several brothers-in-law.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 4-6 p.m. at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception, Hammond, WI, followed by an evening prayer mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception, followed by the Rite of Committal in the St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Please join the family for a luncheon afterward in the church basement to celebrate the life of Mary Elizabeth (Lundy) Rivard.
