Mohsen Shoukry Yacoub, age 72 of Hastings, Minnesota, passed away on May 12, 2017 peacefully at his home.
Moe was born September 28, 1944 in Cairo, Egypt to parents Shoukry Yacoub El Kodsi and Ezelda Saif Khalil. He grew up in Cairo where he attended primary school, high school and studied dairy science at Cairo University.
Moe immigrated to the United States in 1973 and settled in Minnesota alongside his brother and cousins who had immigrated just a few short years before him.
Moe’s career has always included food science and electrical engineering. After finishing his studies in Egypt, he continued post-graduate work in Engineering at the University of Minnesota.
Moe LOVED running. Any chance he had, he used it to take that run outside. He was known by the community of Hastings as the ”Hastings Marathon Man””. Anyone one who lived there had for surely see him running all around Hastings. Completing his 56th marathon in 2016, he definitely earned that title.
He also had a love for tennis. He believed in the importance of staying active and having fun while doing it.
His passion for the United States Air Force drove him to seek out enlistment even though he had medical difficulties with his eyesight.
Moe valued God, family and friends above all else. His deep devotion to those values are what saw him through everything that came across his path.
Moe will forever remain in the heart of his entire family. He is survived by siblings: Cecilia S. Yacoub of Cairo, Egypt, Adel S. Yacoub of Inver Grove Heights, Salwa S. Yacoub of Cairo, Egypt, Reda(Vicky) Yacoub of Hudson, Atef S. Yacoub of Vadnais Heights, Samir(Wafa) S. Yacoub of Cairo, Egypt, Eva S. Yacoub of Cairo, Egypt and Suzy S. Yacoub of Cairo, Egypt; and nieces, Mariann, Dina, Ezelda, Elaine, Denise and nephews, Dr. Ashruf, Dr. Maged, Michael, Mamdouh, Dr. Essa, James, Mina and Michael and many other relatives, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shoukry and Ezelda of Cairo, Egypt, brothers-in-law, Mored and Adly of Cairo, Egypt and sister-in-law, Suzanne of Inver Grove Heights.
Funeral Services will take place 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Glass Valley Cemetery in rural River Falls.
