Muriel “Murt” Jean Mercord

Muriel “Murt” J. Mercord, age 75 of Prescott, WI, died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Comforts of Home, River Falls, WI, where she has lived for the last four years.

Murt was born on May 4, 1939 in River Falls, WI, the daughter of Stanley and Barbara (Bruegger) Dopkins. She was a graduate of River Falls High School. On February 13, 1960 she married Clinton “Ron” Mercord. Together they raised their family in Prescott and ran the Dairy Queen restaurant for 18 years.
Murt was a member of the Prescott United Church of Christ, where she was very active. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star for over 40 years.

Murt leaves behind her children: Melanie (Tweed) Shuman, Hayward WI; David Mercord, Prescott; Katherine (Tom) Strange, Prescott; Barbara (Jack) Dickerson, Phoenix AZ; Daniel (Angie) Mercord, Fenton MI; Ronald (Jennifer) Mercord, Prescott; Cheryl (Scott) Brownell, Prescott. She also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 4 great- grandchildren, her sister Ruth Moran, brother Duane Dopkins, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ron in 2003, her parents, and sister Dorothy Pruitt.

Visitation will be at the Prescott UCC on Monday, April 13 at 3:30 with the funeral services to follow at 6:00. Light dinner after the service. Burial will be on Tuesday in the Pine Glen Cemetery, Prescott.
