Hudson

Nancy Lou Stephens, age 91, of Hudson, WI passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, at Christian Community Homes in Hudson.

Nancy was born on August 25, 1934, in St Paul, Minnesota to Henry and Reba Bargen of Hudson. She was the younger of two daughters. Nancy graduated from Hudson High School in 1952. She went on to UW-Stout in Menomonie where she received her B.S. Degree in Home Economics Education.

She married Arvid Stephens on July 14, 1956, and they settled in Saint Croix Falls. In 1960, they welcomed their only son, Robert. In 1966 they moved their family to Amery, where they built a home overlooking the Apple River and where they lived for several years. Nancy managed a women’s clothing boutique in Amery. In later years, she and Arvid moved to River Falls, where they owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store. Upon retirement, they settled at Wintergreen in Hudson and spent their winters at their condo in Rockport, Texas.

Nancy was an avid football fan and a staunch Minnesota Vikings supporter. She spent her Sunday afternoons glued to the television during football season. Over the years, Nancy and Arvid spent countless hours playing Bridge and other card games with their friends wherever they were. They were very active in the Wintergreen community and Nancy spent several years as a mentor to help new residents. Some of Nancy’s most enjoyable times were when she was entertaining. She loved to host friends and family and did it beautifully. Nancy also sang in the church choir and was a participating member of Eastern Star and PEO.

Nancy is survived by her son, Robert (Susan); granddaughters Hannah (Alex) and Hayley (Carson); great grandson, Greyson. She is also survived by extended family members and her family at Wintergreen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arvid, her parents and sister Barb.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 18 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Visitation will be at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am. Nancy and Arvid will be laid to rest at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner during the summer.
