Nancy Julainne (Scheurman) Weeks, a beloved mother, wife, and cherished community member, peacefully departed this world on July 19, 2025, at the age of 91. Nancy lived a life rich in love, compassion, and serving others, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on Nov 24, 1933 in Beloit, Wisconsin to Ewald and Ethel Scheurman, Nancy grew up in Beloit, then Wausau, Wisconsin. She graduated from Wausau East High School in 1951, then attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison, School of Nursing, where she earned her Bachelor of Science - RN degree in 1957. While going to school and working at a local hospital, she met and married the love of her life, Walter O. Weeks, Jr. To Nancy and Walter, 2 children were born.
In 1964, Walt & Nancy bought "Wanabek Woods" in Amery, Wisconsin, including half of Lake Gibson's shoreline. Their intention was to build their dream home for their young family. Then Walt's employer offered him the opportunity of a lifetime; a 2 year stay in Scotland to establish their new facility in Glasgow. The family either adventured or travelled almost every weekend, visiting the highlands, boat docks, or European countries. Along with many Scottish traditions, Nancy learned to make Scottish Shortbread, using her large wooden mold that embossed the cookie with the national symbol of Scotland, the thistle. Every Christmas after their return, Nancy would make many Scottish Shortbreads as special gifts to close friends and families nationwide. It was always an anticipated delicacy that would never last long enough!
Their dream home was realized in 1970, when they designed and built Vikedahl House, a split level oasis in the woods of Krattley Lane in Hudson. It has been recently refreshed, and is ready to house the next lucky family!
Throughout her life, Nancy was a dedicated registered nurse, devoting the final 28 years of her career to the Christian Community Home (CCH) in Hudson, where her compassion and expertise made a lasting impact on the lives of those she cared for, as well as those she worked with and trained. She retired in 1998 allowing her and Walter to travel much of the world.
Nancy's vibrant spirit extended far beyond her profession. She was an active member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church and found great joy and fulfillment in Mount Zion Quilters, the Joy Circle, Habitat for Humanity, and many other church activities, always eager to lend a helping hand.
Outside of church, Nancy was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, a philanthropic organization that helps women "Reach for the Stars!" She and Walt also enjoyed the orchestral music of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, as season ticket holders for the Ordway Theater for many years.
True to her spirit, Nancy was also a lifelong consistent blood donor, knowing that her blood type was invaluable, since it could be used to help any patient in need. As a resident of CCH, she was known affectionately as "Sweet Nancy."
Nancy is survived by her half-brother, James Scheurman; daughter, Betty (Keith) Steiger; son, Kenneth (Lorena) Weeks; five grandchildren; Benjamin (Kari) Steiger, Matthew (Nerissa) Steiger, Katie (Travis) Christenson, Courtney (Chris) Odell, Heather (Cameron) Sefton; and five great grandchildren; Gloria Steiger, Landon Steiger, Hayden Steiger, Russell Steiger and Beau Odell, plus many extended family and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Ewald and Ethel Scheurman; husband of 65 years Walter Ole Weeks, and half-brother John Scheurman.
In remembrance of Nancy's extraordinary life, funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 505 13th Street South, Hudson, WI, where her spirit and contributions will be honored. A gathering for family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 12:00 p.m. After the service, the family will leave for the internment at the Willow River Cemetery, then return to the church, where a luncheon will be served.
All are welcome to join in celebrating the life of Nancy Julainne Weeks, a life well-lived, filled with love, and a dedication to helping others.
