Olivia Ann Bathen

Olivia A. (Germain) Bathen passed away June 5, 2026, at St. Croix Health Center in New Richmond after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

She was born on May 23, 1940, in New Richmond, Wisconsin, to Edmund and Leda Germain. She attended New Richmond High School and graduated in 1958.

Her career spanned 37 years at 3M as an executive secretary and 17 years at the Washington County Library, retiring in her early 70s. She also helped her son, Joel, at his bakery in Stillwater and North St. Paul.

Olivia was a simple, quiet woman with a streak of independence. She loved her family, whether taking turns hosting Christmas gatherings with her siblings or soaking up the excitement when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit. She loved music and had a gift for singing. She sang with her sister Lois and was a member of the church choir at St. Francis of Assisi in Lake St. Croix Beach. She enjoyed gardening, often planting flower beds at her mother's home, only to gather her ire because she neglected the weeding.

Olivia is survived by grandson Jon (Rachael) Bathen and granddaughter Jenna (Joe) Bathen; great-grandchildren Mckenzie, Alex, and Huck Bathen; sisters Marilyn Henry, Sr. Loretta Germain, and Lois Burri; brothers Edmund and Paul (Grace) Germain; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, especially her special friend, Colette Roche.

Olivia was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joel Bathen; grandson, James Bathen; sister, Yvonne Gangl; brother, David Germain; brothers-in-law Robert Henry, George Gangl, and Ed Burri; and nephew, Mark Henry.

A Memorial Service for Olivia Bathen will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 13, at O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Burial will be in St. Anne's Catholic Cemetery in Somerset. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Saturday afternoon at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family.
