Patricia ‘Pat’ Springer

Patricia Anne ”Pat”” (Smith) Springer, 71, of Hudson, WI, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on April 4, 2016 at the Episcopal Church Home in St. Paul, MN.

Patricia was born on December 4, 1944 in St. Paul, MN to Harold and Marie (Mingo) Smith. She grew up in the Roseville area, and graduated from Archbishop Murray High School. Following her graduation, she attended classes at St. Cloud State University. Patricia was united in marriage to Don Springer, and their more than 50 year union was blessed with two children, Tom and Suzanne. While raising her children, Pat took classes at WITC in New Richmond. She worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for Hudson Products for many years, as well as volunteering for Turningpoint and the Red Cross.

Patricia was a loving and supportive mom and a very proud grandma. She loved her home, the St. Croix River, and the Hudson area. She enjoyed boating, gardening, and socializing with friends and family. Animals brought a special joy to Pat, who loved all animals; but especially dogs, cats, and polar bears. As a result she was always concerned about environmental issues and animal rights. Unfortunately Pat suffered from the challenges of mental illness and dementia for many years, which forced her to withdraw from friends, family and loved ones. But she never stopped caring deeply for all of those people.

Pat is survived by her children, Tom (Stacy) Springer and Suzie (Mike Ahart) Springer-Hewitt; grandchildren: Nolan Hewitt, Cooper Springer, and Shea Hewitt; and brother, Tom Smith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don (8/2015), and her parents.

A Celebration of Pat’s Life will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Pier 500, 500 1st St., Hudson, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Croix Animal Friends, P.O. Box 1169, Hudson, WI 54016 or www.scafshelter.org
