Phyllis Young Womack

Phyllis Marie Young Womack, age 80 of Alva FL and formerly of Hudson, passed peacefully at home on March 25, 2020 with her husband at her side. Phyllis was born on March 27, 1939 in Baldwin, WI to parents Ozmun Henry and Mildred Marie (Armbruster) Winger. Phyllis attended Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, graduating with Class of 1957. On June 27, 1964, she was united in marriage to Donald A. Young. Their union in marriage was blessed with two children, Lora and Grant. She later re-married to Barry N. Womack on March 24, 1984.

Many will remember Phyllis from her time as a Loan Officer and Banker for 25 years, with a good majority of that time with the State Bank in Hudson. After banking, she obtained her CDL and drove semi-truck with her husband for 2 years, covering coast-to-coast. Phyllis then worked for United Airlines for 5 years before officially retiring.

As a young girl, Phyllis loved ice skating, and dreamt of one day being a professional ice skater. She was skilled at sewing, making clothes for herself as a young woman, and Halloween costumes and clothes for her children. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes, and was often asked to make cakes by friends or coworkers for special occasions. Phyllis was a fan of both indoor and outdoor sports, such as bowling, snow skiing, water skiing, and swimming. However, Phyllis, loved to golf the most, and even scored a hole in one. She and Barry spent countless hours together golfing on numerous courses.

Phyllis had only been diagnosed with ALS this past July, and despite it being very aggressive, she continued to remain positive. Her grandchildren Nick, Brady and Alix will miss their overnight babysitter who was beloved for her special breakfasts and lenient rules. They will cherish time spent making apple pie, reading books, and drawing with grandma. Her children will miss everything about her. When they were young, she always provided them opportunities and encouraged them to pursue their interests. As adults, she remained a constant source for daily guidance and loving advice.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Barry Womack; children, Lora (Denise) Young, and Grant (Allison) Young; step-son, Jeff (Jennifer) Womack; grandchildren, Nicholas, Brady and Alexandra Young, and Ashton and Ansley Womack; great-grandchildren, Asher and Lydia; and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and former husband.
