Ray Alfred Nelson passed away on July 28, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on February 2, 1935, in Springfield Township, WI, to parents Alfred and Ella Mae Nelson on the family farm. Ray attended the Maple Grove one room elementary school, which is now sitting at the St. Croix County Fairgrounds in Glenwood City. He then went on to attend Woodville High School and dedicated his life to agriculture, proudly starting Nelson Livestock.
Ray married Suellen Emmert on December 6, 1958. Three months after they were married Ray’s sister-in-law passed away, leaving a small daughter, Joan. For 11 years Joan was a member of Ray & Sue’s family. Kay was Ray & Sue’s firstborn, Kay now lives with her husband Roger Precht in Bird Island, MN. Son Tim & his wife Dalva made their home in Menomonie, WI. Known for his generosity and warm sense of humor, Ray touched the lives of many, forging lasting connections. In his free time, Ray enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.
Ray is survived by his children, Kay (Roger) Precht and Tim (Dalva) Nelson; grandchildren, Dean (Kelsey), Triston, Allison, and Julia; step grandson Wagner; great grandchildren Mckenna and Kysen; niece Joan (Gaylen) Nagel. He is preceded in death by his wife Sue; grandchildren Rachel and Ron; parents Alfred and Ella Mae Nelson; siblings Clyde (Inez) Nelson, Sam (Clara) Nelson, and Arlene (Norman) Nelson.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 14th from 4pm – 8pm at O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin, WI. 1010 Newton St. (715) 684-3434. Funeral service will be at 11am Saturday August 15th at First Baptist Church, 581 Co Hwy B, Woodville with visitation one hour before service. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery in Hersey.
