Richard “Dick” L. Burger, age 84, of Hudson, WI, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2015 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. He was a loving husband with four children, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a friend to many. Born on February 28, 1931 to Pius and Emily (Neutzling) Burger, he graduated from Cathedral High School in Duluth and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Marquette University. Dick went on to serve as a Naval Officer on the aircraft carrier “USS Princeton” during the Korean War. On October 16, 1954, he was united in marriage to Barbara J. Bujold at St. James Church in West Duluth. Dick enjoyed a very successful 35 year career at 3M, retiring in 1991 as a Human Resources Executive. Dick had a passion for his country, his work, travel, sports and, above all, his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barb; children: Julie Mowry of Janesville, WI; Richard “Dick” Jr. (Judy) Burger of Madison, WI, David (Sue) Burger of West Lakeland, MN, and Jim (Beth) Burger of Hudson, WI; 7 grandchildren: David (Sarah), Dan (Jamie), Joe, Lindsey, Ryan, Chad, and Jake; great-grandchildren: Jack, Tommy, Eli, Sam, Ethan, Josiah, and Sage; and sister, Jean Rose. He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings: Floyd, Bill, and Kay. Dick will always be remembered for his concern for others, his sharp mind and his sense of humor. He will be deeply missed.
A Memorial gathering for Dick will be held Saturday, May 16 from 3-6 pm at O’Connell Family Funeral Home; 520 South 11th Street in Hudson.
