Richard "Dick" Vance Krumm

November 16, 1946 — May 24, 2025

Roberts

Richard “Dick” Vance Krumm, age 78 of Roberts, WI, passed away peacefully at his farm on May 24, 2025.

Dick was born on November 16, 1946, in City of Lake Park, IA to John and Blanche (Henjum) Krumm. His early years were spent in Iowa, helping on the family farm, delivering bread and newspapers, and working at Soddy’s Place on Silver Lake. In junior high, the family moved to Baldwin, WI, where Dick’s love for the outdoors blossomed. He was a standout football player and was rarely seen without a tool or fishing pole in his hand.

After high school, his family moved to Bloomington, MN. There, Dick’s passion for street racing took off—he was always tuning his GTO to make it just a little faster. He worked tirelessly, often holding multiple jobs and sometimes working day and night, to put himself through the University of Minnesota’s School of Architecture.

As a gifted architect and founder of RVK Architects in St. Paul and Woodbury, MN. Dick left an indelible mark on communities across the region. His work can be seen throughout Woodbury, Washington County, on Madeline Island, at Wells Fargo Place (formerly the World Trade Center), numerous Subway Restaurants, and beyond. A master hand draftsman, his artistic talent endured well into his 70s. He served as President of the American Institute of Architects – St. Paul and was widely respected in his field.

Dick had a deep passion for the outdoors and found peace in nature. Whether camping, fishing, hunting, boating, gardening and spending time at the farm on the Kinnickinnic River. He cherished the Boundary Waters, fishing and boating the St. Croix River, trips to Door County and Canada with family and his best friends. He relished chasing trout on a long list of his secret streams, steelhead on the North Shore and salmon on Lake Michigan. In addition to being a tremendous fisherman, Dick was also award-winning sharpshooter and lifetime sportsman. He loved walking the aspens for grouse, working a duck or goose blind and marching the golden fields for pheasants or chasing whitetails.

He was also deeply committed to community service. From a young age, he was active in numerous organizations including the Boy Scouts of America, Future Farmers of America, the Jaycees, St. Paul Winter Carnival, Vulcans, AIA Minnesota, Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and the YMCA. He was a tireless advocate for the City of Woodbury, serving on the Ambulance Council and dedicating decades of service to the Woodbury Lions Club. One of his proudest contributions was his work on the breathtaking Veterans Memorial.

Dick is survived by his sons: Mike (Maureen) Krumm, Peter (Leiny) Krumm, Chris (Tracy) Bray, and Kirk Bray (Erika); loving grandchildren: Jack, Will, Charlie and Mary, Mia and Mason, Matilda and Willa; siblings: John (Irene), Leanne (Mike) Grether, Cora (Liz Freeman), Teresa (Jeff) Melnick, David; and many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandy, and his parents.
