It is with deep love and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Richard Frank Muenich who passed away at the age of 79 on Monday, March 23, 2026 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Richard was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Frank and Ellen Muenich. He was the youngest of 5 children and grew up with a strong sense of community, determination, and kindness that would define his life. A standout athlete at Chippewa Falls High School, he earned Hall of Fame honors—an early reflection of his dedication, discipline, and natural leadership.
He went on to study business, urban planning and economics at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, laying the foundation for a long and successful sales career in retail office furniture and supplies. He was widely respected and admired in his profession, contributing his talents to the Washington County Government Center, Dayton’s, American Seating, Knoll, Haworth, Staples and more. His success was not only measured in business achievements, but in the beautiful relationships he built—he was known for his integrity, generosity, and the genuine care he showed to others.
A proud veteran, he served his country in the United States Air Force, carrying that same sense of duty and commitment throughout his life.
Deeply civic-minded, he believed strongly in giving back to his community. He served on the Hudson School Board, where he worked thoughtfully and diligently to support local education. He was especially proud of his role in helping bring Rivercrest Elementary School, known for its sustainable LEED design to life, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students and families. He was married for 49 wonderful years to his loving and devoted wife, Patti, with whom he built a life centered on family, faith, and shared traditions. Together, they created countless memories with their children, Michelle de Blok (Jos), Jason (Bridget) Muenich, and Rick Muenich, and their grandchildren, Madeline Nelson (Devin Buckley), Anja Michels, Michael Muenich (Alyssa Manno), and Alex Muenich.
Family was at the heart of everything he did. He cherished time spent together—hosting lively pierogi parties, organizing Easter egg hunts, making trips for Black Friday shopping at the Mall of America, and attending the Minnesota State Fair, especially on Military Appreciation Day. These traditions became lasting gifts to those he loved.
He was known for his generosity—freely giving his time, talents, and thoughtful gifts to others. He found joy in sharing a great meal, traveling, and continually learning. In 2016, he proudly fulfilled a lifelong goal of visiting all 50 U.S. states, a testament to his curiosity and adventurous spirit.
He was an excellent skier who found peace and happiness in nature. He also gave back to his community by coaching youth basketball, mentoring young athletes and helping others grow in both skill and confidence.
He held a deep and abiding Christian faith and found great meaning in fellowship with others. His life was a reflection of compassion, service, and unwavering love. He lit up the room and brought everyone into the conversation being careful to listen to your story. He had plenty of stories of his own and we enjoyed them all! He remembered people, he enjoyed making friends and he made others feel special.
He had a special fondness for simple pleasures—reading any newspaper he could get his hands on, enjoying a slice of key lime pie, having a cold Leinenkugel’s on a hot Summer day, watching the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers, and sharing stories from his many travels. He loved trains, maps, geography, architecture, and history. His dogs (Will, Toby, Dakota, and Pooh) and grand cat Ozzy were well loved and spoiled rotten by Richard.
He loved his family fiercely and was always there with encouragement, wisdom, and support. His presence was a steady and comforting force, and his absence leaves a profound void.
Richard was preceded in death by his son Rick Muenich, his grandson Nathan Muenich, parents Frank and Ellen Muenich, brothers-in-law John Klawitter, John Gehring and Tom Oas, and in-laws Howard and Dorothy Brown.
He is also survived by his sisters Mary Klawitter, Sharon Oas, and Kay Gehring; his brother Carmen Muenich, and his sisters-in-law Jody Miranda and Dianne (Bill) Hale, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. We are so fortunate to have had him in our lives, and his legacy of love, generosity, and joy will continue to live on in all who knew him.
