Rodney was born on March 21, 1938 in Bismarck, ND, the son of Frederick and Kathryn (Groza) Gieser. He was raised in Hankinson, ND during his grade school years and Mandan, ND during his high school years. There he met “the love of his life”, Gloria June Schwartz. Rod entered the Air Force right out of high school and he married Gloria on June 6, 1959. While in the Air Force, he was stationed in Korea and he was honorably discharged on May 30, 1960. They raised their three children in Mandan, ND where he was the produce manager at the Super Value grocery store chain. In 1969 he relocated his family to Farmington, MN where he worked as an air traffic controller for 26 years. In 1995 he retired and he and Gloria moved up to their lake home in Danbury, WI. Rod and Gloria were married for almost 46 years when Gloria suddenly passed in 2005. After several years remaining in northern Wisconsin and recovering from two heart surgeries, he moved to Hudson, WI to be closer to family in 2022.
Over the years Rod enjoyed being involved in the Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club, the Farmington Jaycees, helping out in many areas of church, golfing, being a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, putting together model airplanes, and calling Bingo. During his most recent years, he enjoyed his time living at the Woodland Hill senior home in Hudson making many new friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, Frederick and Kathryn Gieser; wife, Gloria Gieser and special friend, Dolores Zick.
He is survived by children, Scott (Deirdre), Paul (Deanne), and Terri (John) Meyers. Grandchildren, Christopher Meyers (Kaycee Will), Mollie (Alex) Husak, Megan (Panayoitis) Kontinakis, Celia Gieser, and Eleanor Gieser.
