Roger M. Jewett, age 98 of Hudson, WI and formerly Hopkins, MN, passed away June 17, 2017 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson.

Roger was born on June 5, 1919 in Rice Lake, WI, to his parents, Harry and Grace (Atwater) Jewett. He grew up in Chippewa Falls, WI and at the age of 16 graduated from Chippewa Falls High School, class of 1936. He continued his education at the Stout Institute in Menomonie, WI and Michigan State University. In 1941, Roger enlisted into the U.S. Army and served with the 96th Infantry Division during WWII. On November 24, 1943, while on leave, Roger was united in marriage to Marjory Rusesink in Stillwater, MN. On February 24, 1946 he was honorably discharged from the Army but continued his military service for the next 26.5 years with the Army Reserve, retiring as a Colonel on August 23, 1972.

After WWII, Roger returned to Michigan State University and earned a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Hotel Management. For many years he worked as the Manager at the 510 Groveland Hotel in Minneapolis, the Executive Director of the Teachers Retirement Apartments, and Administrator at the Franklin Nursing Home in Minneapolis. Throughout his career, he frequently advised the Minnesota Legislature on nursing home reform. Roger completed a long career of nursing home management at Chapel View Nursing Home in Hopkins, MN, retiring in 1987.

Roger was a loving husband and father, and a strong patriot that stood up for what he believed in. He relished in spending his free time at home on his hobby farm in Roberts, WI. Robert was fond of spending time boating with Marjory, and traveling with her all over the world and throughout the United States. He will be greatly missed.

Roger is survived by his daughter, Carol Zachary of Hudson; many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjory; son-in-law, Grant Zachary Sr.; three step-grandsons; his parents, and 10 siblings.

A memorial service will be held for Roger at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 1 at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson, 1901 Vine St., Hudson. Visitation for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson or the Christian Community Home of Hudson.
