Russell William Nelson, age 94, a lifelong resident of Hudson, passed away on September 13, 2025, at Woodland Hill surrounded by his family.
Russ was born in Hudson on February 28, 1931, the son of Arvid and Alpha Nelson and the sixth of seven children. He attended school in Hudson, proudly served as a Master Sargent in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1948 to 1956, and began his 38-year working career with Anderson Windows in 1949.
He and Anne Marie Erlitz were married on November 18, 1950, and raised their four sons together in Hudson, with life happily revolving around family and friends.
Russ loved to read, with a special interest in history. He spent many hours as a young man fishing with family members on the St.Croix River, which was a tradition that continued into his retirement years. As an avid Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewers fan, he was loyal through both the lean and championship years. As a quiet man, he'll be remembered for his grit, dry sense of humor and loving support of his family.
Russ is survived by his wife of 75 years, Anne; four sons, Russell Jr. known to family and friends as Rick (Patricia), Woody known to family and friends as Jerry, Scott (Debra) and Brian (Jo); three granddaughters Tanya, Stacy and Gabrielle; along with with five great-grandchildren River, Vance, Gavin, Elliot and Harlow. He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings.
Visitation is from 1 to 2pm, on Saturday, September 20, at O'Connell Funeral Home - 520 11th Street South, Hudson, with a short Celebration of Life at 2pm and Luncheon to follow.
