Ruth O’Connell, age 89 of Roberts, passed away peacefully Friday January 26, 2018 at Comforts of Home in River Falls. Ruth was born on April 10, 1928 in Warren Township, the daughter of William and Genevieve (Smith) Johnston. She was raised in Roberts and graduated from Roberts High School in 1947. On August 23, 1952, she was united in marriage to James O’Connell at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hammond. Although Ruth was a devoted homemaker who focused on her family, she also enjoyed her time working as a postal clerk in Roberts and St. Paul.
Ruth loved spending time with family and friends. She rarely missed a week of bowling or golf league. She took pleasure in wintering in Arizona, gardening, golfing, following local and national politics, and an occasional trip to the casino with Jim.
Ruth is survived by her children, Kit Bruesewitz and husband, Myron of Roberts, Jodell O’Connell and husband, Rick Curran of Minneapolis, James O’Connell of Minneapolis, Carrie Lichtenberg and husband, Jim of Minneapolis; son-in-law James Trowbridge of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren John and Colin Bruesewitz, Greer and Maeve Lichtenberg; sisters-in-law Joyce Johnston and Jean Kapka; nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends. She joins in heaven, her husband Jim, daughter Marybeth O. Trowbridge, sons Tommy and John; siblings Ralph, Lloyd, William, Genevieve, Evelyn, John, George, Estella, Robert, Harold, and Lawrence.
Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth O’Connell will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 8 at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hammond. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will take place 4:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 7 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in HUDSON, and one hour prior to Mass at church.Funeral services are entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson.
