Ruth Elaine Poss

Ruth Elaine Poss, 89, a resident of Hudson, passed peacefully at her home the morning of July 30, 2026, following a stroke.

Ruth was born in Hudson May 31, 1937, to Ray and Anna (Anderson) Detlefsen. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1955 and was united in marriage on Dec. 26, 1958, to George Arnold Poss of Madison at the First Baptist (Living Vine) church in Hudson, Wisconsin.

Ruth was a kindhearted woman who loved sharing her many talents. She began sewing her own clothes in high school and continued sewing clothing, costumes and crafts for her children, nieces, friends, friends of friends, and church functions. She worked as a baker, cake decorator, flower arranger, office employee, and playground supervisor.

Her joys were providing a home for her husband, children, and grandchildren; sharing her talents such as serving at church, cooking, baking, cultivating flowers and plants, singing, hostessing, welcoming neighbors, and spending time with family, friends, and in solitude at her lake cabin in the woods.

Ruth will be fondly remembered as a sister, sister-in-law, aunt, dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and congregant.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George; grandson, Donald (Val Kakaruk) Pungowiyi; great-grandchildren, Baby Boy Pungowiyi and Willow Benson; siblings, Dorothy Olson, Betty Livermore, Wanda Heffron, and Richard Detlefsen.

Ruth is survived by her children, Kirsten Poss, Philip Poss, Karen (Gary) Dubois, Katherine Arfstrom; grandchildren, Panganga (Ryan Benson) Pungowiyi, Celestian Breimhorst, Ari Arfstrom, Matthew Dubois, Justin Dubois; great-grandchildren, Aerial Kakaruk-Pungowiyi and Raven Pungowiyi; as well as countless nieces and nephews.

Services will be at the Living Vine Church on Vine Street in Hudson, Wisconsin, at 7 pm, Aug 20, 2026, with a 6 pm coffee hour beforehand.
