Samuel Richard Lamberta, age 70, of North Hudson, died peacefully on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis following a short but courageous battle with lung cancer.
Sam was born a twin on March 3, 1947 in Saint Paul, Minnesota to Frank and Anna (Richie) Lamberta. Sam attended Saint Patrick’s Parochial School prior to graduating from Hudson High School in the class of 1965. He would further his education at the University of Wisconsin River Falls. During this time, he enlisted in the Armed Forces and served in the Army. Sam was a Vietnam Veteran, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in Long Binh.
On June 16, 1979 he was united in marriage to Jeanette Penman (nee Larson). They raised two sons, Cary and John, and were blessed with six grandchildren. Sam and Jay spent 38 years discussing every topic under the sun while attempting to solve all the world’s problems.
Sam was employed by the 3M Company for 33 years as a Chemical Engineer, retiring in 2006. Sam loved every day of retirement. He bought the boat of his dreams, moored it on Lake Mille Lacs, and spent many years with his fishing buddy brother Geno trying to snag that record-breaking walleye. During the winter months Sam would read an entire book most days, but occasionally with his eyes closed.
Sam is best described as a fun-loving outgoing, generous, honest man with an infectious smile always ready to help out anyone needing it, whether a friend, neighbor, family, organization, or complete stranger. Sam’s generosity was experienced by many. There were several things Sam not only liked, but LOVED: his family and friends, football (#1 Vikings fan), fishing, desserts of any kind, candy, especially spearmint leaves, “chuckles,” and Dreamsicles, not necessarily in that order. Sam was an intelligent man but very modest. Sam was a member of the American Legion and a Lifetime Member of the VFW. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree), and served as Grand Knight from 1978-1980.
Survived by wife of 38 years, Jeanette “Jay”; children, Cary and John (Sara) Lamberta; grandchildren, Kayla, Nadia, Alex, Coralyn, Vivianne, and Breckin; siblings, twin sister Sandi (Bob) Hardman, Frieda Fleischhacker, Geno (Jean) Lamberta, and Becky Lamberta; also many dear relatives and friends, including the “GOMERS”. Sam is preceded in death by his parents; and great-granddaughter, Lilliana Grace.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Sam will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 30, at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 1500 Vine Street, Hudson. Visitation 4:00–7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 29 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 So. 11th St, Hudson. Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
