Sandra Anne Millar Calvert - July 11, 1938 – October 31, 2026 Sandra Anne Millar Calvert passed away in Baldwin, WI, surrounded by family.
Sandra was born to Gordon and Irma Nelson Millar at the Dunn County Hospital in Menomonie, Wisconsin, where her father was the farm manager. As children, Sandra and her two siblings, David and Carmen, lived alongside the patients who were capable of being part of the farm production. They cared for Belgian horses, cattle, poultry and pigs, which fed up to 175 residents and staff of the facility. She learned from early childhood that there is more to each of God's children than what appears on the surface.
Sandra attended college at UW-Stout for two years, leaving to marry William Shranklen, Jr. in 1958. Three children were born from this union. Sandra lived for many years in Huxley, Iowa, and was active in Fjeldberg Lutheran Church, singing in the choir, becoming a Stephens Minister and serving on committees and sewing many quilt tops.
She retired from Iowa State University in 2000 and later relocated to Baldwin, WI, where she became involved with activities at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Sandra's enduring love for music sparked early when she earned the distinction of first chair clarinet in high school. She carried that passion throughout her life, sharing her talents with the Huxley Community Band and later the Ludington Guard Band in Menomonie.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, brother David and sister Carmen, and daughter-in-law Cheryl Shranklen. She is survived by her daughter Patricia (Patrick) Richards, daughter Shelley (Jay) Magnani, and son Michael Shranklen; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren plus nephews Robert, Jamey and Bruce Millar and niece Judith Kistner. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior to the services at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Baldwin. With burial at 2 PM at the Waneka Cemetery near Menomonie.
