Sandra Jean “Sandy” Svenson age 73 of Roberts, formerly of Colfax died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Hudson Hospital. Sandy was born on March 11, 1940 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin; the daughter of Gerhart and Olga (Hovre) Hammer. She was raised in Colfax where she attended school and graduated from high school. Following this, she furthered her education in bookkeeping at the vocation college in Eau Claire. On August 11, 1977; she was united in marriage to Ronald J. Svenson at Bethel Lutheran Church by Rev. Donald Docken. Many will remember Sandy working for LaBon’s Truck stop for several years. She began as a cashier before serving in their bookkeeping department.
Sandy loved her family. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking and baking her Norwegian goodies. She was a supportive and caring mom who loved cheering her son Al on at his soccer games. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, or quilting keepsakes for her family. Furthermore, she enjoyed playing the organ, tending to her flowerbeds, golfing left handed (even though she was right handed), and spending time with her beloved dogs.
Sandy will forever remain in the hearts of her husband of 36 years Ronald, son Al Barstad (Tammy Halverson) of Roberts, brother Don (Ann) Hammer, as well as her extended relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings John, Earl, Leroy ”Humpy”” and Irene.
Funeral service for Sandy is 2PM Wednesday July 3, 2013 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson. Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at O’Connell’s Wednesday afternoon. Memorials are preferred.
