Stanley Virgil Bell

Stanley Bell, 92 a US Navy veteran, passed away on September 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sophie.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Debra (Cary), Steven (Jane), and Diane (Mike); six amazing and accomplished grandchildren; and nine beautiful great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his dear friend and fishing buddy, Gary, who made sure Stan was on the river fishing as often as possible.

Stan was a lifelong runner, completing more than 25 marathons and 20 half-marathons. He could always find another race to run, and his wardrobe proudly consisted of an impressive collection of race T-shirts. He completed his last race at the age of 86. Throughout his life, Stan inspired his family to embrace running, fitness, and an active lifestyle. He especially enjoyed competing in races alongside various family members, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Stan was a longtime high school guidance counselor at Central High School, where his ability to listen, understand, and provide thoughtful support encouraged countless students to pursue their dreams. His compassion and genuine care for young people made a lasting difference in the lives of many.

Following his retirement from Central, Stan followed another of his passions-animals. He devoted his time to caring for dogs and cats at the Coulee Region Humane Society, where he became a highly recognized volunteer and dedicated advocate for animals in need.

To honor Stan's memory, cast a line, give your dog or cat an extra scratch, or go for a run or walk. These simple acts reflect the things he loved and the way he lived his life.

We loved our Dad, Grandpa and GG Stan with all our hearts. He has crossed the finish line and won the race-with a pocket full of doggie treats.

A private family celebration of life will be held.
