Stephen Francis Feyereisen, age 90, Hudson, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
Steve was born in Hudson, Wisconsin at the Daily Maternity Home on Orange street, to Nick and Mathilda Feyereisen.
He lived his whole life in the Hudson area. His first five years were at what is now known as the Bieneman Farm. His parents then purchased a farm south of Sunny Long School, where he attended through eighth grade. After attending high school in Hudson, he worked on the family farm with his dad. During that time, he met his wife, Ida Lubich, at the Falls Dairy. After stints working at Capital Gear and Andersen Windows, he worked at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls as a groundskeeper, where he retired after 27 years.
He started taking accordion lessons when he was twelve years old. He was a founding member of The Valley Boys, a prominent old-time and country band in the St. Croix Valley from 1958 to 1988. In addition to the Valley Boys, he formed other bands, including Hometown Express, Back At It, Steve and the Pickups, The Hay Shakers, and the Feyereisen Five with his children. Throughout his life, he also played at many nursing homes in the area. He rarely left the house without an accordion and was always eager to play with friends and family. His family carries on his musical legacy through continued performances and family jam sessions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Mathilda; his brother, Norm; his grandson, Nicholas; and his in-laws, Hartland and Rhoda.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ida; his children, Dave (Alisa), Bob (Janet), Dennis (Nancy), Lauri (Todd) Moreland, and Linda (Mike) Wagner; his grandchildren, Kayla (Reid), Brittany (Garrett), Jake (Bre), Shaun, Justin, Lindsey, Heidi, Zach (Mikaela), Stephanie (Matt), Jerrett, Brad (Clara), Megan (Logan), RJ (Dayra), and Jenna; and his great-grandchildren, Warren, Ida, Quinn, Hollis, Mara, Camren, Lincoln, and Wesley.
