Thomas W. Gedatus

Thomas Wayburn Gedatus, age 66 of Baldwin, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 4, 2019.  Tom was born on February 21, 1953, the son of Wayburn and Elizabeth Gedatus.

On May 20, 1972, Tom was united in marriage to Pamela Cutts.  This union was blessed with two daughters, Alice and Namie, as well as a son, Timothy.

In May 1972, Tom and Pam moved to Onamia, MN, where he managed a sawmill for Ratzlaff Lumber.  He was a certified hardwood lumber grader, as well as skilled at the other machines.  In 1977, he and his father left the mill and bought a bar in Woodville, WI.  They painted the door purple and called it?  The Purple Door.  17 years, and a lot of hard work later, they closed.  He had worked in his spare time for Warren Larson (Masonry) and with his then brother-in-law Joe Stang.  He also graded lumber for local mills.  Tom went to work for Joe full time after the bar closed.  He was a licensed electrician, licensed soil tester and plumber.  He had many successful years with Joe.  After Joe’s death, he kept the shop going.  It is now closed.

Tom will remain in the hearts of his wife Pamela; children, Alice Gedatus, Timothy Gedatus, and Namie (Chris) Ott; grandchildren, Morgan, Dylan and Lincoln; sisters, Mary (Bill) Hass, Sally Syring, Debra Bryant, and Becky Stang; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended family and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet Halverson; brothers-in-law, Craig Syring and Wayne Halverson; nephews, Seth and Tyler Bryant; and niece, Tracy Syring.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 10:00AM to 12:00PM on Friday, March 8, 2019, at Zion Lutheran Church of Woodville, WI, followed by a Celebration of Tom’s Life at 12:00PM.  Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin, WI.
