With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Verlyn J. Armstrong on July 11, 2025, at the young age of 87. Born on March 3,1938 to Jess and Pearl (Powell) in Iowa City, Iowa, Verlyn was the youngest of 4 children. He spent most of his adult life raising his family in River Falls, as a farmer; however, in 1994 he obtained his journeyman license and became established in the community as a self-employed electrician. For the past 36 years, Verlyn shared a meaningful and devoted partnership with Cyndy Peterson, building a life full of love, shared adventures on the open road and unwavering commitment, making even the seemingly insignificant moments count. A Harley man at heart, Verlyn found his peace on the open road; it was his way of connecting with those he loved. On weekends, the road led north where you would find him relaxing in the RV, enjoying time with family, friends, and a nice cold beer. And when the road rested, so did he—in his favorite recliner, enjoying the familiar echoes of Gunsmoke.
Verlyn is survived by Cyndy Peterson, his partner of 36 years, his children; Kim J Lemere (Paul), Tracy L Cesari (Vince), Todd V. Armstrong (Mary Jo Bowe), Quinn V. Armstrong; Amy L. Armstrong; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. With an open heart, he also accepted his extended family through Cyndy and is survived by her children; Kristi L. Sanz, Keith A. Peterson (Alison Kusilek), Curt R. Peterson, Myndy L. Johnson (Troy), Adam J. Peterson; and 7 grandchildren. Preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Cindy A. Townsend, daughter in law, Nancy M. Brenner and 3 siblings. He will be remembered for his generous heart, blue eyes that lit up when he smiled and the way he made you feel welcome without saying much at all. He was hardworking, kind, and never in a rush—unless there was a sweet treat waiting for him.
A celebration of life will be held on July 17th at Rush River Lutheran Church in River Falls. Visitation is at 10:00 am with service at 11:00 am. Come as you are—jeans, hats, and biker boots are welcome. Memorials and sympathies can be sent to the funeral home. In memory of Verlyn, crack a beer, make every moment count and ride free.
