Virginia Smith

Virginia Smith, of Hudson, WI, age 92, passed away at her home on Thursday, October 15, 2020. She was born on March 22, 1928 in Hudson to parents William and Clara (Erlitz) Schwerm. She attended St. Patrick’s grade school and graduated from Hudson High School. Out of high school she got a job at West Publishing, where she worked until she married Ronald Smith on June 18th, 1948. She also worked for Bell telephone and Olson’s, but her favorite job was being a mom to her and Ron’s four children.

Virginia was the kind of person who could make a stranger a friend with just one conversation. She loved hosting her family at her house on Christmas Eve and cherished every Sunday when she would have her kids over for coffee. She enjoyed reading a good book and finding a new music box to add to her collection.

She will remain in the hearts of her children Marilyn (Mark) Gaetz, Ronald (Lynda) Smith and David Smith; grandchildren Michelle, Elise (Jeff) Ferguson, Amy, Niky, and Cody; great grandchildren Daniel, Edward Violet Ferguson and adopted grandchildren Casey and Carson. She is preceded in death by her husband Ron, son Dan, and sister Violet Corcoran.

A memorial service honoring Virginia’s life will be at 3pm on Friday October 23, 2020 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family.
