Wayne Eugene Baird

Wayne Eugene Baird, age 93, lifelong resident of River Falls, WI, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, March 9 at the Lutheran Home in River Falls. Wayne was born May 1, 1922, in River Falls, to Eugene and Mildred (Barron) Baird. He graduated from River Falls High School in 1940.
After high school Wayne worked for his father, Eugene, at the family business, Baird Oil Company and Service Station. Wayne served in the United States navy from 1943-1946. He was a Carpenter’s Mate 1st class. After the Navy, he worked at Tousley’s Furniture and then at Foster’s Furniture. He also worked a short time at the River Falls Lumber Company. Wayne’s last job was working eighteen years for the River Falls School District as a carpenter/maintenance man. In 1961, he married Elaine (Peg) Steiner of Ellsworth. They were married 54 years. To this union brought one daughter, Mari.
Wayne is survived by his loving daughter, Mari Scobey, and granddaughter, Megan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peg, who passed away last October, his parents, two brothers and one sister.
A private memorial service will be held at Cashman-Hill Funeral Home in River Falls. Visitation will be 4:30-7:00p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Cashman-Hill Funeral Home. Private interment will be in the St. Bridget Catholic Cemetery, River Falls.
