Yvonne A. (Kapaun) Hill

Yvonne (Kapaun) Hill, age 82, of Bayport, MN, passed away suddenly on January 25, 2017 at her home in Bayport.

Yvonne was born on August 10, 1934 in Hudson, WI to Genhard and Mayme (Simonson) Gilbertson. She attended Hudson High School and was married to Gerald Kapaun on July 10, 1954. Their marriage would be blessed with four children: Steve, Ron, Kim, and Kevin. Gerald’s time in the U.S. Navy afforded the couple to live in Texas and Hawaii, before eventually settling back in the Hudson area.

Yvonne worked as a nurse for many years at Hudson Hospital.

It was while dancing at the Bungalow, that she met Eugene Hill, and the two were married on December 19, 1984, happily dancing together ever since.

Yvonne was an avid bingo player and an excellent dancer. In the summer, she loved spending time by the pool swimming and tanning, and going fishing with Gene. Yvonne was also a vocal cheerleader for the Green Bay Packers, and was hooked on watching shows on the ID channel. She loved having a clean home. Her house was like a museum – never a dish in the sink or speck out of place. Above everything though, family was everything to her. She had a real fondness for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed playing cards and board games with them and attending their events. People who knew Yvonne would describe her as one of the kindest people, who always put others first. She would give the shirt off her back to anyone, and was supportive and accepting of everybody she met.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene; children: Steve, Ron, Kim, and Kevin; step-children, Debbie Peterson and Mike Hill (Amy); grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Jane (Tony) Zappa. Preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Gerald Kapaun; brothers, Jack Gilbertson and Donald Gilbertson; grandson, Jacob Kapaun; mother-in-law, Lucille Jahns.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 4-7PM on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson. A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Bethel Lutheran Church – Downtown Campus, 920 3rd St., Hudson, with a visitation held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment at Willow River Cemetery.
